She had a stare that stretched to infinity. She was, in that moment, not my mother but something seperate from me. I looked at what I had never seen as anything but Mom and saw the soft powdery skin of her face-powdery and soft without makeup-soft without help. Her eyebrows and eyes were a set-piece together. ''Ocean eyes'', my father had called her when he wanted one of her chocolate-covered cherries, which she kept hidden in the liquor cabinet as a private treat. I had thought it was because they were blue, but now I saw it was because they were bottomless in a way that I found frightening.-----
She had run without stopping, her white body thin and fragile and dissapearing, while her son clung on to the amber necklace she had torn from her neck to hand him. His father had watched the road. ''She's gone now, son,'' he said. ''She won't be coming back.''Books sometimes capture pathos of a certain situation, don't you think? So does good movies.
Anyway I'm going to
CHINA on an exchange programme :) I can also go to NZ organized by the Science Department, but nah. I'm so excited for the trip, although it's in October because I heard from my seniors it's pretty fun. Delia, Ian and CS are going. I'm wishing that Jeannette, Yu Tong, Tong Hann and Joel will go too(:
What I like about airplane-trips are the short-lasting calm you get out of staring at the blue skies, watching as the clouds wheeze by (provided of course, you get the window seat). We are so caught up by the stuff happening around us, we don't take time to notice the rainbows in the sky, or the carefree birds, or the sounds of nature. I like to stare at trees, or just to listen to the wave of the sea. Time slows down.
There's going to be worship practice every Wednesday as the sec2 class is going to lead worship on one of the Sundays. I guess my weeks are going to be really hectic with Monday: SYF rehearsal, Wednesdays: worship prac, Thursdays: SYF rehearsals, Sats: SYF rehearsal. Come to think of it, its actually pretty cool(: FMSS Drama is gonna get a gold (with honors?) for SYF!
And may I add on a random note, I like being fair. People think that I'm actually a Japanese-American/Japanese/American-Singaporean because of my color/eyes/cheeks. That's pretty coool. My egoism has been improving tremendously with the ''kind''(but not so kind) help of Joel. haha.
